That was very good…thank you. As I am pondering this….I am wondering. Because of our bloodline…. now being grafted in to the line of Abraham….would it be necessary, or helpful in bringing the Muslim people group throughout the Nations to Christ….that we would repent and ask forgiveness – for the sins of Abraham and Sara in the birth of Ishmael? Not negating the birth – as every human life is valuable and loved by the Father….but for the sin of disobedience that created the divide between Christians and Muslims? It is a generational sin at the least isn’t it? Would taking the table of the Lord with the heart of God for the Nations, bring the Muslim people group into our “home” (like with our family)Would not only our prayers for them and our repentance before the Lord for the disobedience of Sarah and Abraham help to pierce the Vail so that people group could see the glory of the gospel?
If that is wrong, please correct me. Either way, it is good to think on something a bit out of the box. In a very childlike view, someone needs to say “I’m sorry” and we have the most to gain for the kingdom by doing so. The Table seems the most loving and forgiving place to begin. Thanks again! Blessings too!
Well, there is good in being ready to let forgiveness flow, for sure. But, there are some different view points that we can take a look at.
There is a difference between the Ishmaelites and the Islamic religion. Mohammad did not come into existence until 570 A.D. and he formed his own religion. So, when we speak of Ishmael and Islam we are truly speaking of two very different things. There are Jews by blood that have become muslims by religion. Islam is not a blood line, in other words.
The Jewish people look at Islam very differently than we westerners do and they tend to have much more mercy toward them than us. I actually still find that baffling.
The conception and birth of Ishmael, is also an arguable principle as to whether it was God’s will or not. The story has more to it if you read the book of Jasher and what the Jewish sages have said for millennia.
There is scripture that speaks of Ishmael being part of what the Lord will do in the season to come and has blessing from the Lord. What Yehovah said to Haggar has quite a blessing with it. Seers tend to come from the bloodline of Ishmael. I believe there is a big Ishmael story yet untold.
So, although I’m always ready for a good dose of repentance, I’m not sure that we would be accurately applying it in this case.
This is a very good discussion point. Thanks, Michele!
Thanks….I should have know that…..guess I thought Mohammed was a prophet through the line if Ishmael..wasn’t thinking….oops! But yes Hagar did get a wonderful prophecy from the Lord. We are blessed to be able to see how that unfolds in our lifetime. would just like to see love and peace between the Palestine’s and the people of Israel – all being able to worship and love in Jerusalem together…..Guess that is part of the “after story” – after Jesus’ return 😇 Love and blessings! And much thanks!
